OVARY

                                      LOCATION 
Each ovary is oval shaped ,measuring  11/2 x3/4  inches (4 x  2 cm ).The ovary usually lies against the side wall of the region below abdomen in adepression called the ovarian groove.However,its position are variable.
    
                                                            FUNCTION
The ovaries are the organs responsible for the production of the female  egg  for reproduction and the female sex hormones,estrogen and progesterone,in the sexually mature female.                                             
                                                              BLOOD SUPPLY
Arteries. The ovarian blood supply  arises from the abdominal aorta at the level of the first lumbar vertebra(lower back).
Veins. The ovarian vein drains into the inferior vena cava on the right side and into the left renal vein(vein of kidney) on the left side.
Lymph drainage. The lymph vessels of the ovary follow the ovarian artery and drain into the para-aortic nodes at the level of the first lumbar vertebra(lower back).
Nerve supply. The nerve supply to the ovary is derived from the aortic network and accompanies the ovarian artery.
